Colored Pencil for Beginners

Location: Artists League of the Sandhills
Workshop Dates: 9/15/2010 -
Contact Person: Betty McDaniel

This is a one day class for anyone wishing to try colored pencils for the first time.  You will learn about the supplies available and where to purchase them.  You will learn basic application techniques and do a simple piece in the class.  This is a medium which is portable and needs little space for working.  You only need to purchase a small set of 20-24 colored pencils (Prismacolor recommended).  All other supplies for the day will be provided.

Colored Pencil using the Grissaille Method

Location: Artists League of the Sandhills
Workshop Dates: 10/5/2010 -
Contact Person: Betty McDaniel

The Grissaille method consists of building your values with grays and then layering the colors over the gray underpainting.  This is especially helpful for artists who are having difficulty getting a good range of values.  Students who register should have taken a beginners class or have prior experience with the medium.  Students should bring their current colored pencil supplies plus some reference photos (preferably their own).

Colored Pencil on Dark Toned Paper

Location: Artists League of the Sandhills
Workshop Dates: 10/6/2010 -
Contact Person: Betty McDaniel

An easy was to get stronger values in your work!  Start with a dark color or black paper!  This method can save time since you need not cover the entire surface.  The paper tone may remain as a portion of your painting or drawing.  Students who register should have taken a beginners class or have some prior experience with the medium.  Bring your current pencil supplies plus your own photo reference materials.  Paper will be provided in the class.
